Understanding the role of debate-style academic discussion; the roles of facilitator and participant in academic seminars.
Literature Review
Critically evaluating and summarizing sources, developing an understanding of the multiplicities of argument around a certain topic, synthesizing sources into a discussion-like document.
Research Matters
Key issues in conducting research, assessing the validity of a piece of research, the generic and linguistic features of research reports and proposals, hypotheses, abstracts
Presenting a dissertation
During the third term you will agree with your Academic Tutor the subject for a 3000-word dissertation which you will research and write. You will formally present your dissertation to your tutor and will defend it verbally (Viva). This approach mirrors that at university.
